How to Create an API User in Autotask PSA?
To migrate data from Autotask PSA, you’ll need to create an API user with the right security level. Follow these steps:
Set up a Security Level for the API User
- Go to Admin Account Settings & Users (or Client Settings & Users for new accounts).
- Expand Resources/Users (HR) and select Security Levels.
- Find API User (system) (API-only) and click Copy.
- Name the security level and enable Full Permission in the Web Service API section.
- Click Save & Close.
Create an API User
- Go to Admin Resources (Users) under Commonly Used.
- Click New and select New API User.
- Fill in the General fields. Under Security Level, select the one you just created. Generate or enter the Username and Secret.
- In API Tracking Identifier, choose Relokia - Data Migration as the Integration Vendor.
- Click Save & Close.
Once your Autotask API user is set up, you’re ready for automated data migration.
Enable API User Impersonation
To let API users leave comments on tickets as agents:
- Go to Admin Account Settings & Users.
- Expand Resources/Users (HR) and click Security Levels.
- Right-click on the agent, then select Edit Security Level.
- Under Web Services API, check Allow impersonation of resources with this security level.
- Click Save & Close.
- Repeat for all agents who need impersonation enabled.
